Our Story

Our  company  was  founded  by Merlin Maxey in 1978. After  a fifteen  year  career  with Exxon, he left to become an independent wholesaler of Exxon products in Conroe, Texas.  In 1981, Maxey Energy Company purchased the Uvalde bulk storage facility and warehouse from Exxon  and  relocated  the  company  to  southwest  Texas.  Maxey  Energy  Company  is  a wholesale fuel distributor. Currently, we operate  bulk fuel warehouses  in Uvalde and  Kerrville. The Uvalde facility is our main office. Our wholesale operations revolve around supplying independent retailers, industrial and agricultural consumers, and our own retail locations. The company began acquiring retail locations in nearby markets and Max-E-Stores,  Inc. was formed in 1992 to operate these convenience stores and service stations. We own and operate fifteen retail locations in Uvalde, Kerrville,  Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Cotulla. We  expanded in 2015 to  increase  our presence  in the  Carrizo  Springs,  Uvalde,  Lytle,  Bandera and Utopia markets  as well.

In an effort to expand our opportunities, we became Wendy’s franchisee in 1996, and built our first restaurant as a combo unit in Cotulla. Max-E-Enterprises, Inc. operates Wendy’s restaurants in Cotulla, Uvalde, Eagle Pass, Del Rio, Kerrville, and Seguin. We continue to seek out ways to acquire and upgrade our wholesale, retail, and restaurant operations to become more dominant in our markets.
